Tuna Melt with a Peach on Top...

...need I say more? Totally disgusting!

It's been a very long time...

....but not much has changed. There are still more cadets than ever, the food is just as unpredictable and know they're building a brand new Mess! I'm hoping a new menu will go with it!

A new year...a new dish

Okay, maybe not.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu this past week was a very fine meal...so fine, in fact that several people left notes attesting to this in the "Comment Box", which is usually reserved for comments such as "You suck" and "Get bent!".

Anyway, it was real chicken, ham and cheese. It was hot and yummy! Two enthusiastic thumbs up. However, the memory of this beautiful meal was sullied by the Stuffed Peppers served the very next day. The smell of this frightful creation was enough to send most people to the salad line.

Seafood Newburg...again

God this stuff smells like crap! The other option was a nasty canned tomato sauce on pasta that had been in a food warmer for way too long. Tuna salad on Wonderbread was a much safer choice.

Fortunately, whoever does the baking for the place, does it really well because the cookies were spectacular! Chocolate with chocolate swirl chips....yum!

Once again, it was crammed to the gills with cadets and other assorted employees. I'm thinking that getting lunch to go is a much safer option if I don't want a lunch tray dropped on my head.

It's been awhile...

However, the food is still as it was...blah...or blech, depending on the day. Today was simply blah. Quesadillas, which I normally love. A little bland...a little empty and a little too long under the heat lamp.

On a different note, the troop load is increasing which means there's a new troop of nervous, twitchy cadets every Monday. The Mess is stuffed to capacity and I'm waiting for the day they tell us that we have to forage for food elsewhere.

Famer's Sausage

Everyone gets pretty excited when farmer's sausage is served at lunch. It's a pretty tough meal to screw up...Even burnt, it still tastes good. So I had the sausage, potato lyonaise (fried potatoes) and when I asked if there was a vegetable, I was told that I had a choice of fried onions or saurkraut. Hmmm...nice options. Whatever...it was pretty good. Not much in the way of a colour palette but oh well. One can't expect miracles.

On a separate note...I hate it when a new troop starts. They tend to be all twitchy and nervous like little lap dogs. They don't know how to form a line, they try to cut in line and tend to drop and break stuff...a lot. Every few minutes I would hear a crash and then applause. Very relaxing, I must say.

Burgers

Coming from the prairies, where cows are abundant, it seems odd to me that the main entree would be processed beef-type food in lieu of actual beef. Last time I had one of these things, I was sick for 3 days. I don't know if I had the flu or if my illness was directly related to my meal, but I wasn't taking any chances. Besides, there's something oddly frightening about the perfectly symmetrical and evenly levelled patties passing a beef burgers.

Spinach salad and chicken noodle soup did the trick to ease the old hunger pains.

Seafood on the Prairies?

Well you know that salmon filets are going to be an experience when you're in the middle of the prairies with no sea in sight. I am pretty sure that salmon is a pink fish. However, the stuff that was served was a sickly shade of pasty gray. Very sad to do that to a perfectly good fish. Along with this was a choice of mushy white rice or mushy brown rice and either mixed veggies or beef and broccoli stirfry...naturally, beef broccoli stirfry goes with salmon. I should have known! Fortunately, a collegue warned me off the beefy concoction before I was "tempted". Oye!

Once again, the ice water was pretty good. Too bad one of the ice/water machines is broken.
